Designated roles: Child Protection
Employed since: April 1998

Having been Manager/Lead Practitioner of Little Cherries Pre-school (formerly known as The Cherry Playgroup) since 1998, I have over these years, seen the group progress through many changes and develop into what it is today.

As a preschool that predominantly serves the local community, I enjoy working with the families and children to best meet their needs. We aim to provide a service that is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all children and recognise that children and their families come from diverse backgrounds. I, along with my team, feel privileged to be able to provide the children in our care with the best possible start in their learning journey.

I manage a dedicated, enthusiastic and caring team, all of whom have a wealth of experience.  All permanent staff members hold a Level 2 or above qualification, appropriate for the care and development of children as required by Ofsted.  All staff are encouraged to participate in additional training to continue their professional development, keep up to date with new initiatives, consolidate their areas of expertise and keep abreast of new legislative requirements.

Foundation Degree in Early Years Education and Childcare (Level 5)
Designated roles: Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), Equalities Co-ordinator (ENCo), Behaviour
Employed since: May 2003

Hello, I’m Dawn, the Deputy Practitioner at Little Cherries. I have been a member of the team since 2003. In 2010 I completed the Foundation Degree in Early Years Education and Childcare (Level 5). I have twin sons and a daughter who have all attended local schools in Cherry Hinton, where I have lived for the past 17 years. I particularly enjoy helping to plan a stimulating environment for children’s play opportunities and developing children’s interests and curiosities.

I am also the group’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) and Equalities Named Co-ordinator (ENCo). The preschool has supported a number of children, and their families, with complex educational needs; therefore the group team have developed specific skills and knowledge, such as the use of Makaton sign, which have enabled children fuller access to the play and learning opportunities available at Little Cherries.
